Chawan Yuki no Hana

The Chawan Yuki no Hana is another exceptional piece created by Master Katsushi, utilizing the classic Tenmoku shape. This Matcha bowl is crafted from Tokoname clay, known for its high iron content that allows it to be fired at very high temperatures. Master Katsushi drew inspiration from falling snowflakes for the glaze pattern, creating a captivating and intricate design. The use of patterns and repeating symbols is a hallmark of Master Katsushi’s style, beautifully manifested in this exquisite piece.

The Career of Master Katsushi

Master Katsushi, born in Tokoname, was practically destined for the potter’s trade from birth. However, he chose to pursue his ceramic training in Seto, diverging from the traditional Tokoname path. After spending his journeyman years in Kyoto, he established his own ceramic kiln in Tokoname in 1992, and earned his master’s diploma in 2013. Master Katsushi’s work has garnered numerous awards at the Chozo Prize Ceramics Exhibition. It’s no surprise that many of his creations have found a prestigious place at Aoyama Square for Traditional Craft in Tokyo, showcasing his skill and artistic mastery.
