The tea leaves for this Hachijuhachiya sencha were grown in the famous village of Hoshino and picked on the 88th day after Risshun. The legend has it that everyone who drinks Hachijuhachiya sencha stays healthy the whole year-round. Hachijuhachiya sencha from mountain valleys such as Yame are a rarity because, due to the lower temperatures, the harvest starts about a month later compared to lower-lying growing areas.

For this tea was the rare Meiryoku cultivar used. This, and the exceptionally aroma was the main reason to introduce this wonderful tea in our shop.

According to several tea farmers the teas should be especially sweet this year. The reason is the hard and long winter followed by a rapid rise in temperature in spring. At least for this tea we can confirm that it’s indeed very sweet!
